Listed below are the steps to help resolve some printing issues within Tax.

  • Follow these steps if you are not able to print from Tax or if the print jobs are printing incorrectly within the entire return.
Verify the selected printer
  • In Tax Preparation, click File >Printer Setup
    • Please verify that the desired Windows default printer is selected, or
    • Select “ProSystem fx printer”, then use the dropdown box to change the default printer for ProSystem fx Tax.
Enable True Type Fonts. Prosys Driver
  • See Article: How do I turn on or off True Type fonts in Tax Preparation?.
  • In some cases it is necessary to disabled True Type Fonts and then re-enable it again.
  • Note: This option is the only printer setting within Tax.
If the issue persists, print to PDF file and if the system allows you to create a PDF.
  • If the program does allow you to create a PDF file, then the issue is with your print driver.
  • To resolve, verify that you are using a PCL 5e or PCL 6 Universal. Class drivers are not currently supported.
    • Notes:
      • The print driver must be written for your Operating System and model of printer.
      • Class print drivers are not supported by Tax and are often installed on Microsoft® Windows® 10 environments.

If the print driver is supported by Tax, make sure that the driver preferences are setup correctly.

If the printer driver preferences are setup correctly and you still cannot print in Tax, you will need to uninstall and reinstall your printer driver using the configuration settings above.
  • Contact your IT Professional to complete this action.
If the issue persists, try one of two workarounds.
  • Use the To PDF file option within Tax Preparation to print returns.
  • Install a universal print driver if there is one available from your printer vendor.
    • For HP® printer's you can go to https://support.hp.com/us-en/drivers/selfservice/UPD/4157320/model/4157320 to get the HP® Universal Print Driver for Microsoft® Windows®.
    • Note: During the installation it will ask what Installation Mode to use. Please choose Dynamic Mode.
